- Sloping lots are the norm. Many Caddens blocks fall several metres from back to front or side to side. That means cut-and-fill earthworks, retaining walls, stepped floor levels and driveways that must be profile-checked for grade and scraping – all things that should be engineered before the architectural design is locked in.

Detention tanks with orifice-controlled outlets, backed by DRAINS or equivalent modelling, are the standard response, and on sloping Caddens lots the tank location must be chosen carefully to keep gravity discharge feasible.
- Earthworks and retaining wall documentation. Cut and fill beyond exempt thresholds needs to be shown on civil plans with finished levels, batters and wall heights, coordinated with drainage behind retaining walls (subsoil drains are not optional on clay hillsides).
- Overland flow management. Council expects designs to preserve or safely manage any overland flow path crossing the lot, so that concentrated flows are not redirected onto downhill properties – the classic sloping-estate dispute we are engaged to prevent.

My Caddens lot slopes away from the street. Where does my stormwater go?
Lots that fall away from the road usually drain to a rear or side inter-allotment drainage easement created when the estate was subdivided. Your drainage design must connect to that easement at the correct level. If no easement exists – rare in Caddens but possible on older fringe lots – options include a charged system or negotiating a new easement, which we can assess quickly from title and survey information.
Do retaining walls need engineering in Caddens?
